Backyard Avalanche Danger: Moderate
Three different storms last week dumped about a foot of snow here in North Boulder. Here’s what it looked like on our patio table:

A string of 4 or 5 warm and sunny days later and here’s what you get:

Looks like a still fluffy middle layer sandwiched between two icy layers. Tilt this sideways and you can see why avalanches happen - that top layer looks ready to slide.
Fortunately, I don’t ski much on my back patio…
