Kevin Nealon - 3-2-07 - Boulder Theater
Almost forgot to post this one as I’d pretty much blocked the experience out of my mind because it was so terrifying.
Nealon is about 7 feet tall and takes great pride in heckling the first few rows of the audience. As soon as he came on stage I immediately regretted sitting dead center, two rows back. This guy was a quick witted pro and he looked like he was going to light up everyone within 30 feet of him. Fortunately, Jennie and I escaped unscathed.
Other than the constant threat of being heckled, his act was really funny. In addition to his never material, he broke out some old SNL classics: Hanz & Franz, Mr. Subliminal, and a short Weekend Update segment.The best part of his act was when he just riffed on doing comedy in general. It was sort of a meta-stand-up, stand-up thing if that makes any sense.
He seemed like a good guy overall and it was great to be able to see him in person after watching him on TV for so many years.
