Happy Thanksgiving

Spent a snowy Thanksgiving here in Colorado with a few friends who also didn’t make it back East for the holiday. Thanks to our friend Blair for hosting a great day of too much food, wine and Trivial Pursuit.

The First Shots From Telluride

Lots more pics to come from a great weekend at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Interesting trivia: Of the 11 people in our house, 5 went to Colgate, didn’t really know each other while there, and graduated in five different years - ‘95, ‘96, ‘97, ‘98 and ‘00.

Day 1: Crested Butte Camping

A nice 4 1/2 hour drive from Boulder on Thursday afternoon landed us in the very cool town of Crested Butte. These pictures are from our campsite - waking up the next day was incredible

Great visit last week from Jennie’s brother Patrick, his wife Rachel, and their identical twin girls Mia (Thing 1) and Zoe (Thing 2). Here are a few pictures:

Tea Leaf Green - 4-13-07 - Squaw Valley, Tahoe

Nice four day trip to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe last weekend in honor of a friend’s impending nuptials. I didn’t bring the camera (what happens in Lake Tahoe stays in Lake Tahoe?) but had a great time all around.

Friday night TLG happened to be playing at the base lodge at Squaw Valley so the entire crew of 10 people headed up for the show. Overall a fun night out but not TLG’s strongest effort.

Some random thoughts:

  • Big room, smallish crowd, & lousy sound everywhere except for right in front of the stage. It was tough to get into the music if you weren’t right up in the thick of it…
  • Bad song selection. Everything kind of ran together and the band definitely suffered from a lack of dynamics. Not a show that would convert the 7 or 8 people we dragged to the show who had never seen them before into raving fans.
  • Josh Clark was on fire as usual.
  • My friend Scott tucked his jacket under the stage before the show started, not realizing there was a drop of 3 or 4 feet, and then had to retrieve it, with the help of a big pair of kitchen tongs, in the middle of the encore (with people dancing all around him and the band looking down on him just a few feet away) while everyone waited in the taxi to leave. It took about 20 minutes and I’m sure was quite a scene from the band’s perspective…

Stream the entire show here: http://www.archive.org (try song 16 “Biscuits” on for size…)
