Umphrey’s McGee - 3/6/07 - Fox Theatre
The last time that I saw a crowd go this nuts for a band it was midnight on NYE in 1996 at the Fleet Center in Boston and Phish was playing Down With Disease with the strobe lights illuminating the largest concert balloon drop ever.
The 700 people at the Fox on Tuesday night might have made even more noise. The end of “Bridgeless” in the second set was unreal.

Some random thoughts:
- They rarely stopped playing during the sets - almost every song segued into the next.
- Took the stage for set II to the sounds of “Danger Zone” from Top Gun - a real nice touch.
- Ozzy encore - fantastic.
- Sound was a mix of Metallica, King Crimson, Rush, Van Halen, and late 90’s electronica Phish. Much more prog rock than jamband.

I’m not going to say anymore and just post up a few quotes from the band’s message board:
Best UM show I’ve ever seen. Truly amazing. Tight, focused playing all the way through. No slow spots or lulls. GET THIS SHOW!
Out all of the music I have seen over the last 15 years, that second set was one of the best sets of music I have ever heard! Truly amazing…
i’ve seen around about maybe 30 + UM shows. This show is hands down my favorite of all time.
They were playing so hard that I had to stop dancing at times and just watch because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
The second set was one of the best, if not the best set of live music I have ever seen. The Bridgeless> Plunger> Glory> Plunger> Bridgeless was insane.
It was one of those shows where you thought that the second set couldn’t possibly be better than the first set…but WAS.
